Torrential Rains Bring Deadly Flooding to Pakistan
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that four individuals were also harmed due to weather-related incidents when a sudden cloudburst hit Babusar Top — a well-known tourist attraction situated in the Diamer district of the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) region.
In an official statement, Faizullah Firaq, a spokesperson for the GB administration, confirmed that 15 travelers remain missing.
"Eight tourist vehicles were washed away in the raging flood in the region," he noted, describing the scale of destruction caused by the sudden deluge.
These latest incidents have pushed the total number of fatalities across the country to 188 since the monsoon season began on June 26. More than 600 individuals have sustained injuries during this period.
Most of the reported deaths — totaling 123 — along with over 400 injuries have occurred in the eastern province of Punjab, which has been the most severely affected by the ongoing downpours.
The intense rainfall has also caused landslides at various locations along Babusar Road, trapping numerous vehicles.
Local emergency teams are actively working to relocate the stranded tourists to temporary shelters, including government buildings and nearby schools.
Meanwhile, the capital city of Islamabad and the nearby military town of Rawalpindi were also hit by heavy rains on Monday, submerging multiple low-lying districts and thoroughfares.
